Hyundai cars was the first company to offer a warranty longer than 3 years in the UK. They currently offer a five year, unlimited mileage warranty on all Hyundai passenger cars not used for hire or reward or commercial use.
Cars over 5 years old
If your car is over 5 years old, you may want to obtain an aftermarket warranty from one of the independent companies listed on our site.
Cars aged 3 - 5 years old
A key point to understand about the Hyundai five year warranty is that it while it is manufacturer backed, with unlimited it only protects against manufacturing defect.
So your car may still generate repair bills at MOT, service or break down which Hyundai deem to be caused by 'wear and tear' or 'fair use' rather than because of manufacturer error.
Items such as suspension springs, shock absorbers, brake calipers and discs, should they fail, would be covered by some aftermarket warranties, but may not be covered by Hyundai. They will assess the reason for failure, and if they conclude it is due to high mileage or heavy use, for example, could legitimately refuse to pay.
On cars over three years old therefore, you may still want some kind of warranty, to protect you against wear and tear bills. Use our comparison table, and read terms and conditions in detail to establish which warranty gives you the peace of mind you are looking for.
