Volkswagen Warranty
Aside from the used approved warranty, there are three levels of extended warranty available to Volkswagen owners.
These are described below and we suggest carefully reading through the differences in cover before making a choice.
The VW extended warranty is an insurance policy, which is administered by Mondial Insurance and underwritten by AGA international. This falls under the jurisdiction of the Financial Services Agency (FSA).
The Volkswagen Comprehensive and Named Component extended warranties are only available for cars that have covered less than 100,000 miles and only as an extension of an existing Volkswagen Manufacturer or Extended warranty. So you have to buy them before or at the car's 3rd birthday.
For further Volkswagen car warranty details, and a warranty comparison to alternative warranty providers, please refer to our Volkswagen Car Warranty Comparison Chart.
An excess can be applied which may reduce the cost of cover. We advise noting the following issues when considering a Volkswagen extended warranty:
- How do Volkswagen define ‘wear and tear?'
Opinions on what constitutes ‘wear and tear' vary greatly from manufacturer to manufacturer and insurer to insurer. - Volkswagen specify that body seals are not covered by the warranty. Check to see if damaged to an insured part caused by water ingress as a result of a non-insured part is covered.
- Cambelts and cambelt failure are not covered. Any deviation from the schedule voids cover.
- Wheels and tyres are not covered. Check to see if corrosion to wheels will be considered.
- The policy specifically prohibits ‘electrical wiring' - check to see if insured parts which are damaged by a failure in this area would be covered.
- Light bulbs are not covered and Volkswagen make no provision for expensive Zenon bulbs, which are fitted, to many modern cars. Check to see if premature failure of these units would be covered.
- You must buy the warranty by the car's 3rd birthday.
We also advise making sure know the period you are likely to need the car to be covered for. This will affect the price of independent warranties that you may want to compare to the Volkswagen warranty.
